Ttc.. when to carry out ovulation tests??(can manage only 3-4)?

I didn't use an ovulation test to conceive. For me I just watched for a clear discharge and when it became thick enough that I could pull it between my fingers a little and it didn't break I would have that day, skip a day, have , skip a day and then have again. For me, I got pregnant after only 2 months of trying using that method so for me I don't think ovulation tests are necessary...
